Vojislav Besarović (1883-1941) represents one of the most prominent representatives of the Serbian national movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina under the Austro-Hungarian administration. A well-educated, prolific writer of tireless energy and a skilled organizer on the ground, Besarović represented the soul of the Serbian Sokol movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The longtime leader of the Sarajevo Serbian Sokol, he soon became the leader of the overall Serbian Sokol movement in the provinces. The paper shows Besarović‘s work on the establishment and development of the Serbian Sokol movement from its origins in the occupied provinces until the end of the First World War, including the prosecutions to which he was exposed during the war. Even after the First World War, Besarović continued his public work, especially in the Sokol movement and the „Prosvjeta“ society. The work is based to the greatest extent on archival material on the Sokol movement and the personal fund of Vojislav Besarović stored in the Historical Archive of Sarajevo.
