Much has been written in Serbian historiography about the first liberated territory in Europe in WWII, the co-called Užice Republic. In shorter or longer works almost all facets of its two months' existence have been dealt with. It would seem that everything has already been said about this historical question. However, hitherto unknown sources or a new reading of a known source can often complement the existing body of knowledge or offer a new perspective on well known phenomena or events. The present paper presents such a novel source, a little known testimony of an official of the collaborationist Nedić regime about the Užice Republic. The document is preserved in the Military Archives. It is a testimony of a high-ranking financial official of the administration of the Drina Banovina with the seat in Užice. The testimony was written right after the fall of the Užice Republic. It partly paints the already known picture of the Užice Republic, but complements it with many new details. The testimony confirms the already known facts about the partisan rule in Užice and its vicinity, but gives also a number of unknown details concerning the treatment of clerks (disparagingly called „penpushers”) by the powers that be, as well as about financial matters of which the witness was in charge.
